Position Summary:

As the Documentation Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the planning, execution, and delivery of technical documentation projects. Reporting directly to the Director of Community, you will lead a team of technical writers, providing them with guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the successful completion of documentation initiatives. Your leadership, project management skills, and technical expertise will be critical in driving the team towards continuous improvement and innovation within the documentation process.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Documentation Projects: Oversee the entire lifecycle of technical documentation projects, including planning, execution, and delivery. Collaborate with team members to define project scope, goals, and timelines.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Offer mentorship and technical guidance to documentation team members. Assist them in developing their technical writing skills, understanding project requirements, and adhering to documentation style guides and standards.
  • Review and Edit Documentation: Conduct thorough reviews of technical documentation created by team members. Ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to style guides. Provide constructive feedback and edit documentation as necessary to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Set Documentation Standards: Establish and enforce documentation standards, templates, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all documentation produced by the team.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers and product managers, to gather necessary information, review documentation needs, and ensure alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Manage Team Resources: Plan sprints and allocate resources effectively to ensure that documentation projects are completed on time and within budget. Identify any resource gaps or bottlenecks and take proactive steps to address them.
  • Handle Escalations: Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated issues related to documentation quality, project delays, or other concerns. Work diligently to resolve issues promptly and effectively, escalating to higher management when necessary.
  • Advise on Performance Reviews: Conduct regular performance reviews and feedback sessions for documentation team members. Identify areas for improvement and provide support and guidance for their professional development.
  • Stay Current with Industry Trends: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in technical writing and documentation. Incorporate new tools, methodologies, and techniques into the documentation process as appropriate to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Set, assess and improve team objectives, key results (OKRs), key performance indicators (KPIs), processes, style guides, tools, and workflows to ensure quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Foster an environment of innovation and creativity within the team to explore new ways of delivering value through documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred, Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in team management and technical writing.
  • Strong leadership abilities to motivate and guide a team effectively.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills in English.
  • Technical writing expertise with a focus on clarity and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of documentation standards, best practices, and style guides.
  • Understanding of quality assurance principles and processes.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for documentation initiatives.
  • Experience in coaching, training, and developing technical writers.
  • Skill in identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Proficiency in managing relationships with stakeholders.
  • Technical aptitude with the ability to grasp complex information.
